The Grid is a performance at the intersection of choreography, installation, and electronic music. Sixteen moving light columns and a dancer engage in a hypnotic dialogue between human and machine. When the machine stops being a tool and becomes the environment we move within, where does its choreography end, and where does ours begin?
The work serves as a metaphor for the invisible grids that program us, often subtly: algorithms that curate our lives, and even societal expectations that organize our behavior. As movement threads its way through, the rigid framework begins to soften, rippling into waves. The space turns fluid, porous. The dancer makes this environment his own, opening up the possibility that, even within programmed systems, freedom can emerge.
The Grid is a collaboration with audiovisual artists Victor Dissel and Bram van Ravenhorst. The installation is also presented independently as a continuous audiovisual landscape.
