Biography
Arno Schuitemaker was born in 1976 in The Netherlands. After obtaining his Master's degree at the University of Technology Delft in 2002, Arno decided to completely change course and to study contemporary dance. Since his graduation in 2007, he has created a wide variety of theater and site-specific performances, including Proxemics (2007), ZONE (2008), ANOMIA (2008), EXIT (2009), Couple (2010), TIDE (2011), and The Fifteen Project (2012).

Other works were created for Codarts Rotterdam Dance Academy, Urban Explorers Festival in Dordrecht, the Mixed Emotions project by Generale Oost in collaboration with Artez School of Dance and Orkest De Ereprijs, and the Brand New #2 project by company Conny Janssen Danst in collaboration with Dansateliers Rotterdam.
His work is engaged by philosophical and existential curiosity. With an uncommon approach to subject matters and performance structures, he constantly searches to unravel the mystery of our body and ourselves. The sensory experience is given priority over a narrative or imagery, creating performances that are not a copy of an external theme but draw their logic from a network of layered and inner ('many-flavoured') relationships.
In 2009, he received the Dioraphte Encouragement Award for his work: “The jury was very impressed by the – metaphorical and literal - inevitability by the works of this maker, his mature and clear choices, and his sense of dynamics and construction of tension.” In 2010 he received the Brabant supports Top Talent grant, and recently he has been selected as Aerowaves Priority Company 2013 as well as Modul-dance Artist 2013-2014, a project by the European Dancehouse Network (EDN).
Arno regularly teaches professional classes and workshops, both internationally and in The Netherlands.
